Autism Acceptance: Kherson Ukraine
April is Autism Acceptance Month, which is very special for us @ AKIVA Metaverse.
We partnered with a nonprofit organization Autism Special Universe from Kherson, Ukraine to bring you the real-life stories of 11 families, who are courageously raising neurodivergent children in an extraordinary situation.
What is the extraordinary situation you may ask?
- It is not easy to raise a child in general
- It is 4 to 8 times more difficult to raise a neurodivergent child
- Parents in Kherson, Ukraine have autistic and neurodivergent children who are desperate for help
- The families are running very low on food, water, and necessities
- 4x — 10x is the increase of prices to purchase food, water, and necessary items
- The parents are unable to provide for their families. Their jobs were destroyed, and no longer exist, as Kherson is the only major city currently occupied by Russian military forces.
AKIVA team members were touched by the stories so much, that we decided to stop our planned efforts during the Autism Acceptance Month and dedicate our work to bringing the stories of Kherson Autism Special Universe to the global community. In a Neurodivergent fashion, with our passion, dedication, and focus, we worked harder for the last 20 days to create the Kherson NFT collection, using AKIVA Metaverse Avatar coupled with Ukrainian national symbols.
The goal of the Kherson NFT Special Collection by the AKIVA team is to raise awareness of the extraordinary challenges associated with raising autistic children by families in Kherson, Ukraine. We asked them to share their stories and videos using their own words, which we are sharing with you here, translated into English.
All proceeds received from the mint of the Kherson NFT Collection and Kherson Akiva Gofundme page will go directly to the Kherson Autism Universe nonprofit organization. AKIVA Metaverse will match 1:1 every dollar raised and will donate our methodology and AKIVA Metaverse software as a service subscription to the families of Kherson Autism Universe nonprofit organization.
